of the LORD

All whom My Father gives (entrusts) to Me; and the one who comes to Me I will most certainly not cast out [I will never, no never, reject one of them who comes to Me]. John 6:37

From: Christine Kowalczuk Subject: update on Gracie Date: Tue, 26 Sep 2006
Today was Grace's school board meeting and diagnosis with the psychiatrist. The school board went very well. She will have speech and language therapy, O.T. and adaptive physical therapy as well as pre-school starting in February. She will be in a class of 8 students with a 2-1 student to teacher/aide ratio and they will help her transition into this new environment.
The psychiatrist diagnosed Gracie with Autistic disorder which means she will remain under the care of the Regional Center and have access to all their programs. They have a great support system for all the members of the family. After doing some testing he says she is highly intelligent but then she spent the next 40 minutes minutes at the window sill shutting everything out and only focusing on a toy while he continued the interview with myself and her advocate. This is an answer to prayer as Grace will now have all the services she needs to help her cope with her world.
Thank you all so much for praying and we appreciate your ongoing prayer support. God bless...
Christine
October 24, 2007 special update article about Christine Kowalczuk and her battle with cancer:
BY JUDI BOWERS
Keeping the faith is vital to cancer recovery, says Daren Dilts, pastor at Evergreen Baptist Church in Big Bear City. He says there is documented medical facts supporting his claim.
Christine Kowalczuk doesn't need a medical report that faith is vital to cancer recovery. She's living proof, she says.
"It played the part," Kowalczuk says when asked what role faith played in her recovery. Diagnosed in March with an aggressive form of colon cancer, Kowalczuk was given a 40 percent chance of surviving. With two young children and a husband who would be left behind, Kowalczuk turned to her faith, she says. "My husband was devastated (by the diagnosis), Kowalczuk says. "But I never lost that peace that God knew what to do."
Kowalczuk is a parishioner at Evergreen Baptist Church. She says the church members were an extended family, not only praying for Kowalczuk's survival, but watching her children, driving her up and down the mountain for treatments, cooking and more. They were an amazing support group, Kowalczuk says of the parishioners at Evergreen Baptist Church.
Kowalczuk's husband's job keeps him off the mountain six days a week. Kowalczuk maintains the home fires. The couple has two daughters, ages 5 and 3. The 3-year-old is autistic.
It took five months before Kowalczuk received her diagnosis. She was told she had hemorrhoids and needed a high fiber diet. Another diagnosis was an abscess, which sent her to see local surgeon Dr. John Sharp. "Dr. Sharp recognized it (cancer) right away," Kowalczuk says.
By that time, the cancer had spread to her female organs and lymph nodes. Instead of surgery, Kowalczuk began a radical treatment plan of chemotherapy and radiation.
And a heavy dose of prayer.
"I think it's a miracle," Kowalczuk says. She was given a cancer-free bill of health on Sept. 9.
"It could only be God," Kowalczuk says. She lost her grandmother to colon cancer and the type of cancer Kowalczuk was diagnosed with is genetic, she says. But it's not normally seen in a woman her age. She was 45 at the time of the diagnosis.
When Kowalczuk learned she had cancer, she told her church family. She says there was never a question of faith by anyone. It was more of an attitude of OK, let's deal with this, she says.
Dilts says the diagnosis meant Kowalczuk's young daughters and husband could lose her. The church family began to pray and not only does Kowalczuk have a strong faith, but so do the members of Evergreen Baptist Church, he says.
Kowalczuk went through a laying on of hands after being anointed with oil. The prayers followed, and she says that was the start of her healing.

Richie has had encouraging reports on her fight against pancreatic cancer and I wanted to share it with you. On her last CA-19 cancer marker it is now at 70. Before she started taking chemo, it was 490. She had a CAT Scan last week and the tumor in her pancreas is half the size it was when she was diagnosed and the other tumor appears to be gone. She was referred to the Sloan-Kettering Institute in NYC, by Dr. Harrer and Dr. Earl. She and Steve returned yesterday and the Dr.s in NY said that her progress is excellent and that they would not make any changes in her treatment. They do not feel that it would be wise to try any clinical trials at this time. They will be monitoring her progress and if changes need to be made in the future they will re-evaluate. Of the patients taking gemzar, she is in the top 25%, which is very significant.
We would like to thank you all for good thoughts and prayers.
Richie Hamel (Montana) and family
UPDATE: May 3, 2008 Link to her full story
Her positive attitude, combined with extensive chemotherapy that one in five people responds to, has helped reduce the tennis-ball-sized tumor to less than 2 centimeters.
